If you’re lucky enough to live in Cape Town, you know that this city has some of the best nature spots in the world! One of my favorite places to visit is Dalebrook tidal pool, where I can start my day with a family sunrise swim.
Check here for a selection of images I’ve taken at Dalebrook over the years.
And if that wasn’t enough, I can then take a short drive to this particular nearby spot in the mountains, surrounded by a stunning forest canopy, to photograph some of the most beautiful waterfalls in the area.
I’m always on the lookout for the perfect opportunity to capture some slow shutter-speed images of these waterfalls, and luckily, I know that I only have a day or two after a rain event to catch them at their best. This week, I was fortunate enough to have ideal weather conditions, with overcast skies helping me to achieve that perfect slow shutter speed. A neutral graduated filter helped here too.
The best part is that these waterfalls are just a 30-minute walk from the car park, making them easily accessible. I am grateful to be able to experience the magic of Cape Town’s natural beauty on a regular basis.
Camera settings:
- ISO at 100
- Aperture at smalled possible – most cases around f22
- Shutter speed at 30″seconds on most of the images
- I used the 2-second timer for stability and a tripod is a must at those shutter speeds.
- I used an ND graduated filter to help with these settings.
