Stranded Southern Right whale

A young Southern Right Whale, about 8m in length, was stranded on Danger Beach, St James, Cape Town on Wednesday 17 August in the early morning. When I got to the beach around 10:30am the animal was already dead. Speaking to local residents they claim the whale was alive when it first beached. The Dept of Environmental Affairs were on hand and took samples before the animal was towed out to sea by the NSRI. They towed it to Simon’s Town where I presume it will be trucked to be disposed of in a land fill.
