Yesterday I attended a SA Ubuntu network breakfast. A Canadian guy sat down next to me and we introduced ourselves. He has been in Cape Town for 6 months and is waiting on his work permit. His wife has taken up a post at UCT for 5 years. So we chat a bit, as people do at network events, and he asks if I have always lived in Cape Town. I say yip sharing that I grew up in Kalk Bay. He responds, “Did you see that amazing photo in the newspaper during the week of the waves at Kalk Bay? 🙂 That’s my pic!!! What a great feeling.

Sean then goes on to tell me that looking at my photo brought back memories of him getting drenched by a wave while on holiday on the eastern coast of Canada many years ago as a kid. Looking at the photo and thinking about his experience as a kid has made him want to take his two boys to see and witness the power of the ocean. Maybe this weekend there will be some more action in Kalk Bay for Sean and his boys. I hope so.
